About Me

About Me

Hi! My name is Rachel Kimball and I'm a senior at Burr and Burton Academy.  I am a second-year cinematography student and hope I can make and present some quality films this semester.

I've been an avid mountain biker since my freshman year, I Nordic ski in the winter, and play tennis in the spring. I enjoy contemporary embroidery as a pastime, will read any vaguely-interesting book you place in front of me, and, living in a rural town, have learned to love hiking, swimming, and all kinds of outdoor activities.

I've always loved reading, writing, and the english language as a whole. I also have some (limited) knowledge of Spanish, and am beginning to learn Korean. Because of this love of languages, I plan to be a linguistics major when I get to college.

Other important factoids:

  • I was born in Utah! Most of my dad's family live there, and the rest of my mom's family live in California and assorted western states.

  • I own an (invaluable) collection of 30+ lip balms. Honestly, at this point I should just be a Burt's Bees ambassador.

  • I convinced myself and my family I wanted to be a pro-rollerblader last year — like those "urban blading in Beijing" videos you can find on YouTube — and so I got rollerblades for my birthday. However, living on a pebbly dirt road at the top of a steep hill doesn't really facilitate easy practicing, so I'm no closer to being a "pro" than I was in May 2018. Unfortunate, I know.

  • I once got stuck in a baby swing when I was seven years old at my grandpa's house in Idaho. I was wearing full snow gear, and there was probably a foot of snow on the ground. My sister left me crying in the swing to go inside and laugh at me from the living room window with my dad.

Experience

Previous Experience

My First Film

My sister and I started creating iMovie films on the family computer when I was around three years old, and this film is one of those early creations, based off a Calvin & Hobbes comic.

My First Class-Made Film

My first film made in a cinematography class was this plushie movie. Really great content, if you ask me. Just kidding, it's really mediocre content, but was pretty fun to create. I hope I've made some progress since then.

My Last Film from Cinema

This was an assignment to film on my phone, which I did with my dad at two in the morning, right before the last possible day I could film, so I had barely enough time to edit. Not my proudest work — I wish the lighting had been better so the quality was higher, but not the worst thing I've ever created!

A Bit More

Here's a small collection of some of my favorite films and books. Maybe you can learn a bit more about me through them!
